How this calculation works
The tool counts the characters in your title and estimates its rendered width in pixels, because that is what search engines truncate on — a title of narrow letters fits more than one of wide letters. It flags titles likely to be cut off and those with room to spare.
What the results mean

- The exact count. The 50–60 range is a useful target, but it is a proxy for the real limit, which is width.
- Estimated width
- An approximation of how wide the title renders. Search results cut off around 600 pixels. This is an estimate, since exact widths depend on the font and characters.

Because the real limit is pixel width, and every tool approximates it differently. A title of 60 narrow characters fits where 55 wide ones do not. Treat any character count as a guide and check the estimated width, which is closer to how truncation actually works.
What happens if my title is too long?
Search engines cut it off with an ellipsis, usually mid-word. The fix is to front-load the important words so they survive, and move anything optional to the end where losing it does not matter.
