Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure

RunTheTests is free to use, with no account and nothing to buy. It is paid for by advertising and by affiliate links, and this page says plainly where those appear, what we earn from them, and the rules we hold ourselves to so that being paid never changes what a tool tells you.

What an affiliate link is

Some pages link to products or services — a replacement part, a router, a VPN, a password manager. Where that link is an affiliate link, we may be paid a commission if you buy something after following it. The price you pay is the same either way; the commission comes out of the seller's margin, not out of your pocket.

Affiliate and advertising links are labelled where they appear. If a link is commercial and you cannot tell that it is, that is a bug in the page and we would like to know.

Money does not change a result

This is the rule the rest of the page exists to protect. A test measures what it measures. No advertiser, affiliate partner or commercial arrangement changes a threshold, a pass mark, a reported figure, or which result a tool gives you. We do not accept payment for a favourable result, and there is no arrangement under which we could.

When a test fails, free fixes are listed first. A paid option, if there is a sensible one, comes after them and is disclosed. A failed test is information, not a sales cue — see our editorial policy for how that is enforced.

Pages that carry nothing at all

Tools that handle passwords, keys, encryption or other secrets carry no advertising and no affiliate links whatsoever. This is not a preference we apply by hand — those pages ship a Content Security Policy that blocks third-party scripts outright, and an automated check refuses to publish the site if one of them is missing it. A page that could be asked to keep a secret should not be loading anyone else's code.

What advertising can see

Where advertising appears, the ad network sets its own cookies and may process data under its own terms. What you type into a tool is not part of that: the calculations run in your browser, and the values you enter are not sent to us or to any advertiser. Our privacy policy covers what does and does not leave your device, and the cookie policy covers the storage side.

Independence of recommendations

We are not paid to recommend specific hardware, and a recommendation is never the point of a test. Where a tool helps you decide between repairing and replacing something, it is built to give you the arithmetic rather than an answer — including when the arithmetic says to keep what you already have, which earns us nothing.
