How this test page works

A full diagnostic sheet for Xerox printers and multifunction devices: colour bars, a grayscale wedge, solid CMYK blocks, multi-size text and alignment marks on one page. Xerox builds laser and LED office equipment rather than inkjets, and their devices tend to carry more built-in calibration than consumer hardware does — which makes this sheet most useful as the before-and-after around one of those routines. Print it, judge each section, and read the fault against the guidance beside it.

What the results mean

Calibration is the usual fix
Xerox office devices carry their own colour calibration and registration routines. Most colour drift here is corrected by running one rather than by replacing anything.
No nozzles
These are laser and LED engines. Streaks and gaps point at the drum, the transfer belt or the fuser, and cleaning cycles for nozzles do not apply.
Visual only
The sheet gives you a known pattern to judge. Consumable levels and component life are reported by the device itself, not by this page.

Common problems and fixes

Colour has drifted gradually over weeks
That is what the built-in calibration exists for, and on a Xerox it is usually worth running before investigating anything else. Colour output shifts with temperature, humidity and consumable age, and the device measures its own output to correct for it. Print this sheet before and after so you can see whether the routine actually changed anything.
A pale or dark band runs the full length of the page
A band along the direction of travel usually points at the transfer belt or a drum rather than at toner, since toner shortage shows as uneven fading rather than a clean stripe. On a multifunction device, first rule out the scanner by checking whether the fault appears on a printed file as well as on a copy — a mark on the scanner glass produces a stripe on copies only.
Copies show a defect that printed files do not
Then the print engine is fine and the fault is in the scanning path. A speck of debris on the document glass or on the narrow strip of glass used by the document feeder produces a line down every copy in the same place. Cleaning both strips of glass resolves the great majority of these.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the built-in test on a Xerox printer?

On most office models it is under Machine Status or Device, in Information Pages or Troubleshooting, which offers print quality and calibration pages. Networked devices also expose them through the embedded web server at the printer's IP address. Those pages come from the device itself and are the authoritative comparison against anything printed from a browser.

Should I calibrate before or after printing this sheet?

Both, and that is the most useful way to use it. Print the sheet, run the device's calibration, then print it again — you have a direct before-and-after on the same pattern and paper, which tells you whether the routine helped. Judging calibration by eye on ordinary documents is far less conclusive.

Does this work on a Xerox multifunction device?

Yes, and it is particularly useful there because it isolates the print path. If the sheet prints cleanly but copies of it come out with marks, the fault is in the scanner rather than the printer — a distinction that is easy to miss and that changes what needs cleaning or servicing.
