How this test page works

A complete diagnostic sheet for Ricoh printers and multifunction devices: colour bars, a grayscale wedge, solid CMYK blocks, text at several sizes and alignment marks. Ricoh's range is mostly laser office equipment, alongside a GelJet line that uses a viscous gel ink rather than conventional inkjet ink — so the right interpretation depends on which you have in front of you. Print the sheet, work through each section, and match the fault to the guidance printed beside it.

What the results mean

Laser or GelJet
Most Ricoh devices are laser. The GelJet line uses gel ink, which dries differently and has its own maintenance, so identify the engine before troubleshooting.
Registration on colour models
Coloured fringes on black text edges mean the colour stations are not aligned. Ricoh devices carry their own registration adjustment for this.

The page provides a known pattern. Consumable levels and component life are reported by the device, not by anything in your browser.

Common problems and fixes

Copies have a line but printed files do not
On a multifunction device that isolates the fault to the scanner. Debris on the document glass, or on the narrow strip of glass the document feeder scans through, puts a line on every copy while printing stays clean. Cleaning both pieces of glass fixes the majority, and it takes a moment compared with investigating the print engine.
Black text has coloured edges
The colour stations are out of registration, which drifts gradually and is corrected by the device's own colour registration routine rather than by replacing a consumable. Run it from the maintenance menu and reprint this sheet — the CMYK blocks and text edges show the improvement much more clearly than ordinary documents do.
A GelJet model has gone faint after sitting unused
Gel ink behaves more like an inkjet than a laser in this respect and can dry in the head when idle. Run the head cleaning routine from the maintenance menu, then reprint — and as with any liquid-ink device, printing something in colour regularly does more to prevent the problem than cleaning does to cure it.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the built-in test on a Ricoh printer?

Under User Tools or Settings, in Printer Features or List/Test Print, which offers a configuration page and test patterns. Networked devices also expose them through Web Image Monitor by entering the printer's IP address in a browser. Those pages are generated by the device and are the reference when they disagree with a browser print.

Is a GelJet an inkjet?

Not quite. It sprays a viscous gel-based ink that sets very quickly on contact with paper, which gives it laser-like speed and water resistance while still using a printhead. The practical consequence is that it shares the inkjet failure mode — ink drying in the head during long idle periods — which is not something a laser is vulnerable to.

Does this work on a Ricoh multifunction device?

Yes, and it is a useful way to separate printing from scanning. Print the sheet, then photocopy it: if the copy shows a defect the print does not, the fault is in the scanning path rather than the print engine. That distinction decides whether you are cleaning glass or investigating a drum.
